Games, movies, youtube music videos, I do it all on my computer now and the experience is amazing. The price isn't cheap, but you are really getting the bang for your buck. This sound system has brought my computer to life. The built-in feature is also a great bonus.
My neighbors more than likely but they'll get over it. These speakers blew me away, by far the best computer speakers one can own. These speakers definitely thump so be prepared.
THE FOLLOWING DAY Amazon reduced the price substantially. Finally decided to purchase. Kept the product.but Amazon lost a buying customer. Like the product fine. Looked at it on Amazon for over a year, hoping to get a better price. I requested the new purchase price, got a terse, "sorry, but no" response.
So, anyone who says they sound "hollow" or "tiny" when placed in a large room is full of crap. Use the money you save for a good blu-ray player, like a ps3 Logitech should really update this design to meet the growing technology. I mean, this blows away competing systems at 2 times the price and 5.1 through optical hookup still sounds pretty darn good.
Forget about buying anything else and get this system, that is, unless you have the money to build a system, piece by piece. For the money, as countless others have stated, this system can't be beat. So loud, it shakes my whole house and can be heard blocks down the street if I have a window open and crank the volum up to boost mode. My only real complaints are: It would be nice to have wireless rear speakers, for obvious reasons. These speakers more than fill up a room that is 350+ square feet when watching a movie. However, for the price, this isn't a sticking point. It's a pain running speaker wire all around the room and trying to hide it from view.
Buy your cables from monoprice.com for a few dollars a piece and you're ready to rock. So, I can overlook this flaw. I use these speakers as my livingroom surround sound, hooked up to a Samsung 46-inch 550 model and PS3 for Blu-ray, DVD, and mp3. 500 watts with THX certification.
I actually purchased this system from a competing company to amazon, for $198 plus free shipping. If I don't feel like turning the ps3 on to listen to music, I'll just connect my iPod directly through the auxillary imput. AND, the speaker wire they give you isn't nearly long enough if you're not using this system in a small dorm room, so be prepared to shell out for your own speaker wire. I highly recommend you purchase this system.
I've had the Z-5500's now for about 9 months and my opinion of them hasn't changed since day 1. forget what others say, this system is LOUD. Also, no HDMI input/output.
Pros: Digital Dolby, DTS, THX certified, sounds great on HBO HD and all the channels that support Digital Dolby, i'm using an optical cable, with the cox box & PS3 as well as the Power Mac G5, aux for the iPodCons: not any really wish the cable for the speakers were longer
